Weight Loss And Your Neighborhood

You may not believe it but the way your neighborhood is designed has an effect on your weight and waist size.

Recently published in the American Journal of Epidomiology, the Oregon Research Institute and their findings demonstrate the relationship between weight and the density of fast food outlets in the neighborhood as well as the link between weight and neighborhood walkability.

In this study, it was shown that an increase in weight and waist circumference, three pounds and 0.8 inches respectively is associated with a neighborhood with many fast food outlets since people often eat at these outlets. On the other hand, there was a marked difference in people who live in a walking-friendly neighborhood. This is shown by a decrease of 2.7 pounds in weight and 0.6 inches in waist circumference.

This new environment-person approach to obesity and weight loss calls into attention the fact that the high incidence of obesity in the US has many factors and even your own neighborhood can be a part of the reason you have those excess pounds arising from the easy access to fast food.

Our lifestyle has a huge impact on our weight today. And as a result, healthy living can not be helped but overemphasized. A well-balanced diet, regular physical exercise, enough sleep, and stress management are just some aspects of our lives that we have to work on. This is a major makeover for most of us and the road to fitness will be challenging indeed.

Weight Loss Recipe: Taste Matter!

What’s the biggest downfall of a weight loss diet, given that you are fully committed to your weight loss regimen?

The answer is – the recipes!

You are more likely to fall off the weight loss wagon if the foods are so bland-tasting and take a long time to prepare, right?

So taste does matter. It is also important that the foods are delicious, in addition to being healthy and low in calories. Weight loss would be such a burden if you have to eat tasteless food to take the place of your favorite delicacies.

The recipes should be good enough for your palate and I found this interesting diet which boasts of tasty recipes. The “Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook” has been getting good reviews because it’s tasty and creative.

Weight loss is a daunting journey and when you have to eat not-so-tasty goodies, it seems a bit too overwhelming. Weight Loss and Leptin

Weight Loss and Leptin

Some of the weight is back…I know, such a lousy way to start the new year but it was quite unavoidable after the holidays and all the food. You mustered all the willpower you can but still, some of the unwanted pounds are back…

So what do you do?

Jumpstart your weight loss this 2009!

I found this new weight loss program which can help you do that – the Leptin Diet by Byron J. Richards!

The program is about regulating leptin and other metabolic signals. Leptin is the one of the most vital adipose derived hormones which is important in “regulating energy intake and energy expenditure, including appetite and metabolism.”

Leptin in the blood is proportional to the body’s white adipose tissue. Therefore, the higher the levels of leptin, the higher the percentage of white adipose tissue in the body.

In severely obese children with a genetic inability to produce leptin, they have difficulty losing weight. It seems that when the body fails to produce leptin, the brain assumes that there is no stored energy (fat) in the body and so causes the person to eat more to compensate for this lack of stored energy.

Important Weight Loss Facts You Need to Know!

Important Weight Loss Facts You Need to Know!

Obesity is an epidemic. Many Americans are overweight but many more are in the danger of becoming severely obese.

As a result many are very interested in weight loss and millions each year go on a diet or enroll themselves in a structured weight loss program.

The FDA brochure has given these four important facts on weight loss:

• Any claims that you can lose weight effortlessly are false. The only proven way to effective weight loss is either to reduce the number of calories you eat or to increase the number of calories you burn off through exercise. Most experts recommend a combination of both.

• Very low-calorie diets are not without risk and should be pursued only under medical supervision. Unsupervised very low-calorie diets can deprive you of important nutrients and are potentially dangerous.

• Fad diets rarely have any permanent effect. Sudden and radical changes in your eating patterns are difficult to sustain over time. In addition, so-called “crash” diets often send dieters into a cycle of quick weight loss, followed by a “rebound” weight gain once normal eating resumes, and even more difficulty reducing when the next diet is attempted.

• To lose weight safely and keep it off requires long-term changes in daily eating and exercise habits. Many experts recommend a goal of losing about a pound a week. A modest reduction of 500 calories per day will achieve this goal, since a total reduction of 3,500 calories is required to lose a pound of fat. An important way to lower your calorie intake is to learn and practice healthy eating habits.

Weight loss takes time and effort and any claims otherwise are downright fallacy. Weight loss and weight management requires determination and the will to stick to it permanently.
