Diet is the Key to Weight Loss

It has been common knowledge that healthy diet coupled with a good exercise plan is most favorable for weight loss. Burning more calories by moving more.

However, in a recent study by the Loyola University Health System found out that diet is more important in weight loss than exercise. In the study, a group of women from Chicago and their diet lifestyle was compared to another group of women in Nigeria. Both groups have no significant difference in terms of their physical activities.

However, the women from Nigeria have a carbohydrate- and fiber-rich diet as compared to the diet of the women from Chicago which is high in processed foods and is 40-45% fat.

This means that diet has a more vital role in weight loss and a big change in your eating habits can spell the difference in your weight loss efforts.

“Evidence is beginning to accumulate that dietary intake may be more important than energy expenditure level,” Loyola nutritionist Amy Luke said. “Weight loss is not likely to happen without dietary restraint.”

But that doesn’t mean you’ll stop exercising!

The health benefits of exercise, nonetheless, are not diminished one bit. Although exercise and increased physical activity has no significant contribution to weight loss, it has other health benefits including improved cardiovascular capacity and there have been studies which revealed exercise can help improve academic performance in children.

Weight Loss Pills – Are They Safe?

Obesity is a big health problem and many people have finally taken on the challenge of losing those unwanted pounds. However, weight loss through natural methods take time, patience, and making some drastic changes in one’s lifestyle.

The opportunity for a quick weight loss fix is hard to pass up especially with every imaginable pill – every color, shape, and size – out in the market today.

But are weight loss pills safe?

Before anything else, go seek medical advice from a doctor or a registered dietitian. It always pays to be cautious especially since we’re talking about your health here.

Basically there are two types of weight loss pills: prescription and over-the-counter. Most weight loss pills are appetite-suppressant, fat blocker, and fat burner.

The safety of weight loss pills lie mainly on their ingredients. In 2003, the FDA has banned the use of ephedrine in diet pills when evidences of heart attacks have been linked to the substance. It is very important that when buying any weight loss pills, you must READ the label and the ingredients.

Research online, ask questions, take precautionary measures before taking any diet pill, and find out which weight loss pill will best suit you.

Weight loss pills on their own, more likely, will not result to any significant decrease in your weight. A combination of a healthy diet, increased physical activity, and the right weight loss attitude is still the best way to rise up to the challenge of getting rid of your excess pounds.

Here’s something you should know about: A proven effective weight loss pill may work wonders to other dieters but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will have the same results for you. Be informed and choose wisely.
