The “French Women Don’t Get Fat” Diet
Thursday, December 18th, 2008The “French Women Don’t Get Fat” Diet
Have you ever wondered why French women don’t get fat?
Mireille Guiliano shares the weight loss diet secrets of French women in her book “French Women Don’t Get Fat”. She further describes it as the “ultimate non-diet book” – no counting of calories and guilty pleasure when eating prohibited foods.
The principle of this weight loss diet is choosing quality over quantity. Eating for the sheer pleasure of it and relishing in the flavors and textures of the foods you eat.
One big difference between the American and the French diets is the serving portion. French servings are a quarter of the normal serving in an American restaurant.
Surprisingly, there’s really no food restrictions in this weight loss diet as long as you keep each portion small. High-fat, high-sugar sweets, and fried foods are discouraged but you can still eat them just
keep in mind to stop yourself after a few bites (just a few bites and not the whole thing!)
And for those who hate going to the gym or doing structured exercise routines, the author recommends stepping up your movements in your daily activities as well as walking whenever possible, like going to the grocery at the corner.
The author also gives the following tips to help you have an effective weight loss:
1. Keep a food journal – document what you eat and how much
2. Savor what you eat – just enjoy, no guilty feelings
3. Slow and steady – this weight loss diet is definitely not a quick fix
4. Variety – variety prevents boredom in any weight loss diet
5. Drink water – keeps you hydrated while losing weight
6. Ritual eating – make each meal a special time, no multitasking!
7. Portion control – cut back slowly on how much you eat
8. Walk – a fun way to exercise
9. Ritual preparations – prepare your own meals, that way you know what you’re eating and you’re going to love it!
Isn’t this weight loss diet just amazing?
But let’s get one thing straight, French women do get fat and obesity in France are really not that far behind the American percentage.
