The Cambridge Diet
The Cambridge Diet was developed in the UK in 1970 by Dr. Alan Howard which was exclusively utilized in weight loss clinics. However, in 1980 in the US, this weight loss diet was introduced commercially to the public.
The diet is an example of a very low calorie diet and is composed of nutritionally complete pre-packaged food choices. Cambridge products include shakes, soups, nutrition bars, and super oats.
The diet involves drinking three of the servings of shakes provided. Weight loss programs have a calorie range of 415 to 1500 kcal/day involving the Cambridge products and usual food intake. Water intake should be 3-4 liters everyday to prevent dehydration.
Really low in calories, isn’t it?
This weight loss plan is set to employ “the excellent weight loss properties of starvation, while providing enough protein to protect lean tissue, the right level of carbohydrate to promote a mild ketosis (the body’s fasting mode, which burns body fat) and eliminate a sense of hunger, and the right levels of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential fatty acids to maintain good health.”
However, when you do decide to undergo this diet, it is recommended that you do so under the supervision of a medical practitioner. In the UK, this weight loss diet is only available through qualified counselors and to people with a BMI above 25.
Exercise is not advisable due to the low-calorie nature of the diet.
This diet sounds pretty scary when you’re on your own. Better consult with a doctor or dietician/nutritionist before deciding to try the Cambridge Diet.
